The Oyo State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (OY-RAAMP) has awarded contracts totaling N3.5 billion to upgrade three key rural markets in the state. The initiative marks the first phase of a broader plan to revamp market infrastructure, support agricultural logistics, and empower rural communities.
The selected markets for this phase are Aare-Alasa Market in Ona-Ara, Oja-Agbe Market in Iseyin, and Oja-Oba Market in Ibarapa Central. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, emphasized the administration’s commitment to transforming rural markets into modern hubs. “These upgrades will include improved infrastructure, storage facilities, and access roads to streamline logistics and benefit farmers and traders,” he stated.
Permanent Secretary Mrs. Abosede Owoeye highlighted the alignment of the project with Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision of food security and economic empowerment. OY-RAAMP Coordinator Mrs. Adeola Ekundayo detailed the fund allocation: N1.23 billion for Aare-Alasa, N1.22 billion for Oja-Agbe, and N1.04 billion for Oja-Oba. She stressed that the project aims to reduce post-harvest losses, enhance rural road connectivity, and improve market accessibility for farm produce.
Contractors appointed for the projects include Quicbond Nigeria Ltd (Aare-Alasa), Lee Fakino Nigeria Ltd (Oja-Agbe), and AB-Bond Habitat Ltd (Oja-Oba). Ekundayo urged contractors to collaborate with host communities to ensure sustainability and local buy-in.
This intervention underscores Oyo State’s efforts to strengthen rural economies and agricultural value chains through strategic infrastructure development.
