Oyo Market Leaders Pay Courtesy Visit to Alaafin, Seek Support for Crisis-Free Trading

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has vowed to strengthen security efforts in Oyo State to address disruptions in trade and mitigate rising food prices. The pledge came during a courtesy visit by Oyo’s Market Leaders Council at his palace in ancient Oyo town, where the monarch assured traders of his unwavering support.

Led by Asiwaju Yekeen Abass, the delegation highlighted challenges faced by traders in transporting goods from farms to markets, urging the Alaafin to intervene. In response, Oba Owoade I affirmed his commitment to working with state and federal security frameworks to curb insecurity, stating that joint efforts would yield positive outcomes.

The visit also aimed to resolve internal leadership disputes within Oyo’s traders’ associations. According to Chief Yisau Hamzat, the state’s artisans and tradesmen president, the meeting successfully settled ongoing crises. Additionally, women’s forum representatives, including Alhaja Saratu Konibaje and Princess Folasade Abeo, confirmed that the engagement resolved leadership conflicts among female traders.

Industry stakeholders hope the monarch’s endorsement of security measures will restore confidence in trading activities and bolster the local economy. The Alaafin’s intervention is seen as a critical step toward ensuring stable market operations and affordable food supply chains in the region.
