“2027: Beyond Politics, Youthful Vision of Makinde Is Needed in Nigeria” — Olaide Olasupo

Business executive and Ibadan-based philanthropist Olaide Olasupo has urged Nigerians to look beyond conventional politics and embrace the youthful vision he attributes to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State as the blueprint for national renewal ahead of 2027. He argues that Makinde’s model of governance in Oyo — marked by infrastructure delivery, policy consistency, prompt pension and gratuity payments, and housing development — should serve as a national template.

Olasupo, himself a long-time Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, highlighted key projects such as the Ibadan Airport upgrade and the Circular Road in Ibadan as evidence of impact and investor confidence. He drew comparisons to the developmental vision of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, suggesting that Makinde’s administration is breaking new ground in the South-West with innovations comparable to Nigeria’s past progressive regimes.

According to Olasupo, Nigeria needs younger, dynamic leadership that can handle the economy, safeguard stability and reconnect government with the people. He emphasised that the governance era is shifting and that 2027 presents a “once-in-a-generation” opportunity for bold leadership with a youthful mindset.

He also declared that should Makinde decide to contest for the presidency, he and his network of business leaders are ready to mobilise resources both locally and globally to support the ambition. Meanwhile, Olasupo stated that any candidate adopted by Makinde for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State must win, stressing that the governor’s endorsement carries significant weight.
