The Oyo State Government on Thursday disbursed an additional ₦200 million to property owners affected by the ongoing Ibadan Circular Road project, bringing the total compensation so far to ₦600 million.
Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Williams Akin Funmilayo, who oversaw the fourth batch of payments, assured that the total ₦1 billion package would soon be completed.
“With this exercise, we are gradually approaching the ₦1 billion mark. Today, beneficiaries will receive between ₦3 million and ₦5 million each, with payments credited immediately,” Funmilayo announced.
He explained that although the Circular Road corridor was first acquired in 2006 and expanded in 2018 before Governor Makinde assumed office, the governor directed that owners of both legal and illegal structures be compensated.
Funmilayo also cautioned beneficiaries against fraudsters, urging them to report any government officials demanding kickbacks.
At the event, Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, described the project as one “ordained by God,” noting its origins under former Governor Rashidi Ladoja in 2005. He added that the road has since been named after Ladoja, who is set to be coronated as the Olubadan of Ibadanland two decades after initiating the project.
Representatives of the beneficiaries, Alawiye Adebayo and Iyafin Abigeal Opelopeoluwa, applauded Governor Makinde for keeping his promises and showing compassion in governance.
