His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, Alaafin of Oyo, has called on the federal government to bring to justice those responsible for the recent killings of Yoruba natives in Oke Ode, Kwara State, describing the violence as barbaric and a threat to peace.
Oba Owoade, through his media aide Bode Durojaiye, expressed deep concern over the tragic loss of life attributed to suspected herdsmen attacks in Kwara communities. He urged that those behind the killings be identified, arrested, and prosecuted to set an example and prevent future atrocities.
The monarch also remarked that Yorubas and Fulanis have coexisted peacefully for decades, and the recent violence threatens that historical harmony. He warned that the recurrence of such violent incidents, often linked to criminality and herder-terrorism, should not be normalized in any part of the country.
To ensure safety, Oba Owoade said he has contacted Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State. The governor responded by deploying a battalion of soldiers to the affected areas to help restore peace.
The monarch also called for structural reforms in Nigeria’s security system, emphasizing the need for political leaders, community stakeholders, and citizens to confront the root causes of insecurity—not just react to its outcomes. He insisted that all people, regardless of ethnicity or background, deserve protection of life and property.
