Governors elected on the platform of the APC have formally reaffirmed their commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” pledging to deepen alignment between federal policies and state-level implementation. At a strategic meeting held recently in Birnin Kebbi State, the governors used a communiqué to articulate key priorities, underscore cooperative governance, and signal readiness for the next phase of national transformation.
The meeting—convened by the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF)—brought together APC governors and top aides who reviewed the nation’s socio-economic trajectory, the performance of Tinubu’s presidency, and state-government responsibilities in delivering results on the ground. In his reading of the communiqué, PGF Chairman and Governor Hope Uzodimma noted the growing evidence of synergy between federal and sub-national government efforts, describing it as a “model of cooperative federalism and inclusive development.”
Governors flagged several areas of progress: fiscal reforms such as subsidy removal and exchange-rate unification; increased state allocations; expansion of infrastructure; heightened investor confidence; and enhanced coordination on security. They committed to ensuring these gains translate into tangible benefits for citizens through job creation, food security, support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and the strengthening of social safety nets.
In a significant move, the governors welcomed the recent defection of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State into the APC fold—boosting the party’s national governor count and reinforcing the party’s narrative of a growing national reach. The PGF communiqué described such developments as “historic and transformative,” asserting that they validated the appeal of the Renewed Hope Agenda and reaffirmed the APC’s position as a national rather than regional party.
Key themes emerging from the meeting include:
Policy Alignment: Governors agreed to domesticate the central agenda at state level, ensuring that federal programmes are incorporated into state budgets, plans and implementation frameworks.
Institutional Strengthening: Recognising that reforms depend not only on policy but execution, they pledged to enhance procurement processes, digital governance systems, and monitoring frameworks to ensure accountability.
Grassroots Engagement: With public trust central to the agenda, states committed to improved communication, increased transparency, and direct involvement of communities in governance.
Security and Stability: The governors reiterate support for the national security architecture and pledged to strengthen inter-agency coordination, community policing and the welfare of frontline personnel.
Party Cohesion and Renewal: With defections reshaping the political landscape, the governors emphasised the APC’s growing national hold, calling for internal unity, discipline, and consistent messaging.
Governor Uzodimma underscored the urgency of improving living standards: “Our mandate is not merely to build roads or bridges—it is to restore hope, to raise incomes, to prevent hunger and to give our youth a future.”
As the 2027 general elections approach, the meeting’s outcomes send a clear message: the APC-led governors intend to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda, and position their states—and by extension the president’s platform—as credible and electorally robust. Whether these pledges translate into visible improvements at the grassroots will test the strength of the commitment.
