The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has pledged to bring an end to the persistent electricity challenges that have plagued the Ibarapa zone of Oyo State for over 15 years.
Adelabu, who made this vow during an official working visit to the region, described the state of electricity supply in Ibarapa as “unacceptable,” assuring residents that the federal government is determined to provide a lasting solution.
According to the Minister, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has placed power generation and distribution at the core of its Renewed Hope Agenda, with a focus on improving infrastructure and reducing the long-standing energy deficit in rural and semi-urban areas.
He explained that the Ministry has initiated discussions with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and other stakeholders to restore consistent power supply, adding that a comprehensive technical audit of existing facilities in the zone is already underway.
Adelabu noted that the federal government would prioritize the rehabilitation of damaged transmission lines, transformers and substations to ensure stability and sustainability. He also disclosed plans to incorporate mini-grid and renewable energy projects in partnership with private investors to complement the national grid.
The Minister assured residents that the project will not be another unfulfilled promise, stressing that he has personally taken responsibility for monitoring its progress until completion.
He further expressed confidence that once implemented, the intervention would significantly improve business productivity, attract investments, and uplift the standard of living in Ibarapa and neighboring areas.
Community leaders, traditional rulers and youth representatives present at the meeting expressed gratitude to the Minister for his direct engagement and urged him to ensure that the power project translates into visible results within the shortest possible time.
Chief Adelabu reaffirmed his commitment to delivering results-driven leadership and reiterated that reliable electricity remains a major catalyst for economic growth, especially in agrarian communities like Ibarapa.
