Speaking ahead of the launch of her new book, HUG (Healing, Understanding, Gratitude), which will be unveiled today (Saturday) via Zoom, Bankole explained that regular hugs not only improve emotional health but also boost immunity and aid recovery from illness.
“Research shows that hugs are more than gestures of affection; they are medicine. Daily hugs can lower stress, strengthen immunity, and even promote faster recovery,” she said.
According to her, hugging triggers oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine – natural chemicals that elevate mood, reduce anxiety, and ease pain.
Bankole lamented that in today’s technology-driven world, many people struggle silently with depression, grief, and loneliness, often overlooking the extraordinary healing power of an embrace.
“For those who feel hurt, abandoned, or rejected, a hug speaks louder than words: you are not alone, you are loved, and you are understood,” she added.
Her book combines personal stories, biblical reflections, and practical exercises to illustrate how hugs can restore human connection and emotional well-being.
“This book is for anyone who has ever felt alone, broken, or disconnected. HUG is not just something to read, but something to live,” Bankole said.
