Residents of Ore, the administrative headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area in Ondo State, have expressed growing concern over a potential public health threat following the discovery of a decomposing corpse near the Ore overhead bridge.
The body, believed to be that of an unidentified mentally ill man, was reportedly found lying by the roadside and partially covered with a yellow cloth. The disturbing scene has since attracted the attention of commuters, traders, and residents in the bustling area.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the corpse may have been at the location for several days before drawing widespread notice, by which time it had begun to decompose and emit a strong, offensive odour.
Residents warned that the continued exposure of the remains poses significant environmental and health risks, including the possibility of disease outbreaks if urgent action is not taken.
Speaking on the situation, a resident, Idowu Festus, appealed to relevant authorities, particularly environmental health officials and security agencies, to promptly remove the body and ensure its proper disposal.
He further urged the government to improve intervention measures for homeless and mentally challenged individuals to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As at the time of this report, the corpse was still lying unattended at the scene.
