Double A Foundation Empowers 20 Small-Business Owners in Ibadan With ₦1 Million Grant

The Double A Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded by radio broadcaster Abiodun Adewole—popularly known as “Double A”—has empowered 20 small-business owners in Ibadan with grants totalling ₦1 million. Each beneficiary received ₦50,000 during the 5th edition of the foundation’s annual empowerment programme.

The event, held at the White House in Molete, Ibadan, attracted beneficiaries, community leaders, and supporters who gathered to celebrate another milestone in Double A Foundation’s commitment to promoting social justice and human development.

Adewole stated that the empowerment initiative reflects his lifelong desire to give back to society and uplift people in line with the vision behind his radio programme, Aditu, on Ilaji FM 91.9. He emphasised that this year’s edition expanded both the number of beneficiaries and the total funding, doubling the impact compared to previous years.

In earlier editions, 10 small-business owners received ₦500,000 in total, but this year’s initiative supported 20 beneficiaries with ₦1 million, thanks to the sponsorship of an anonymous philanthropist from the United States.

To ensure transparency and sustainability, the foundation conducted interviews and screenings before selecting beneficiaries. Participants were required to open savings accounts and commit to tracking their business growth. Though repayment is not mandated, beneficiaries will be monitored to assess their progress and reinvestment outcomes.

Several recipients expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as timely and life-changing. One of the beneficiaries, a tailor, said the ₦50,000 grant would enable her to buy materials and expand her business, while another recipient, a trader, described the initiative as a “lifeline” amid the rising cost of goods and economic hardship.

The empowerment programme comes at a crucial time when small businesses in Nigeria are struggling with inflation and high operating costs. Through such targeted support, the Double A Foundation continues to play a vital role in strengthening grassroots entrepreneurship, boosting self-reliance, and inspiring a culture of community development
