End Acting Management, Appoint Substantive Officers – Unions of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Urge Governor Makinde

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the three unions at Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic in Eruwa, Oyo State—comprising the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU)—has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to end years of acting management and appoint substantive officers for the institution.

In a letter addressed to the governor, the unions commended his previous decision to appoint Professor Adebiyi Kazeem as Chairman of the Governing Council and the recent increase in subvention to the institution. However, they expressed concern that the polytechnic has operated under acting principal officers for more than seven years, a situation they argue hampers long-term planning, institutional stability and accreditation processes.

According to the unions, the Governing Council advertised the positions, conducted screening and recommended qualified candidates as far back as July 27, 2025, but no substantive appointments have yet been announced. They urged the state government to act without further delay to restore full management capacity, institutional morale and staff welfare.

They added that continuing to rely on acting officers undermines the institution’s ability to perform, leaves key governance roles unfilled and raises questions about accountability and continuity. The unions pledged to maintain industrial harmony but warned that frustration could grow if decisions remain delayed.

Copies of the correspondence were also sent to the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, the Head of Service and the Chairman of the Governing Council.
