Faction in Osun PDP Accuses State Leadership of Betrayal, Appeals for Intervention

A faction within the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has broken silence, accusing the state leadership of betrayal and discriminatory practices. The group released a statement alleging that many members have been sidelined, denied opportunities, and ignored despite loyalty and contributions to the party over the years.

According to their claims, key party structures and decision-making bodies have failed to uphold fairness and internal democracy. They point to repeated instances where zoning arrangements, internal nominations, or appointments were reportedly manipulated to favour a select few — leaving the majority feeling disenfranchised and demotivated.

Angered by what they describe as systematic marginalisation, the faction is now appealing to the national leadership of the PDP, respected elders, stakeholders, and supporters to intervene. Their call is rooted in concern that continuing on the present path may lead to mass defections or a breakdown of party cohesion well ahead of forthcoming elections.

The dissident group also warned that the lack of internal justice and transparency could undermine the PDP’s ability to mobilise support, as disillusioned members may withdraw support or align with other parties. They argued that political survival for the party depends on inclusivity, accountability, and respect for members’ rights.

In making their appeal, the group advocated for an independent review of recent internal party decisions and the formation of a caretaker or reconciliation committee — tasked with auditing previous nominations, verifying membership claims, and ensuring that future appointments reflect fairness and consensus. They believe such measures could restore confidence and prevent further fragmentation.

Some party analysts perceive the move as a warning signal. They note that if not addressed swiftly and transparently, internal strife could erode the PDP’s grassroots structures and weaken its electoral prospects. They expect pressure to build on state leadership from both within the party and from civil society.

Others, however, caution that public airing of intra-party grievances may deepen divisions, reduce public confidence, and play into the hands of political opponents. For them, reconciliation must proceed carefully, balancing transparency with efforts to avoid exacerbating tensions.
