The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the accident happened at about 6:55 a.m. and involved two vehicles — a white Iveco truck and a Toyota commercial bus.
According to the FRSC spokesperson, all occupants of the bus were affected. “One male victim was confirmed dead, while eight men and one woman sustained injuries of varying severity,” the statement read.
Rescue officers quickly moved the injured to the Emergency Centre in Ojota and the Gbagada General Hospital, while the deceased was taken to a mortuary in Ibafo. The scene was cleared to ease traffic congestion.
The vehicles involved are now in police custody as investigations continue. Preliminary reports suggest that speeding and obstruction on the road led to the collision.
Authorities once again urged drivers to exercise caution, especially during the busy ember months, noting that overspeeding remains one of the leading causes of crashes on the highway.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a vital link between Lagos and other parts of the country, has gained a grim reputation for frequent road mishaps, often blamed on reckless driving and poor compliance with traffic regulations.
