Former Oyo Assembly Member Abdulganiyu ‘Ayesoro’ Oseni Passes Away

The political community in Oyo State is in mourning following the death of Honourable Abdulganiyu ‘Ayesoro’ Oseni, a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly who represented Irepo/Olorunsogo State Constituency. His passing was confirmed by a family member on Tuesday morning.

Oseni, who served in the 8th Assembly after being elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015, was known for his grassroots connection and advocacy on behalf of his constituency. His legislative tenure coincided with the administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, and he was noted for engaging with local government and ward officials to push for improved infrastructure and community programmes.

Details surrounding his death remain sketchy, though it is reported that he had been unwell for some time. The news has triggered an outpouring of condolences from colleagues, party officials, and community leaders who described his departure as a significant loss. One former colleague remarked that Ayesoro’s commitment to his community and his warm personality helped bridge gaps during challenging political times.

Residents of Irepo and Olorunsogo expressed shock and sadness at the sudden loss, recalling his accessibility to constituents and his regular presence at community events. In a statement, a ward chairman in the constituency said: “He was one of us—a friend, a representative, and a neighbour. His absence will be deeply felt.”

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course, and many local government officials have pledged to attend and pay their respects. Party leaders from both APC and other formations have also indicated they will join the tribute events to honour his memory.

As the state pauses to remember his contributions, the hope is that his legacy of community service and political engagement will inspire others who follow in his path.
