Gunmen abduct 60-Year-Old Oyo headmaster, demand N30m ransom

A 60-year-old headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mr Matthew Kolawale Owoade, has been abducted by suspected gunmen.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday evening, July 11, 2026, between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., while the school head was returning from his farm.

According to his son, Abiola Owoade, the attackers intercepted his father along the way and took him away to an unknown destination.

The abductors were said to have contacted the family shortly after the incident using the victim’s phone and demanded a ransom of N30 million for his release.

Efforts to trace the victim led to the discovery of his abandoned motorcycle in a bush at about 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, by a search team.

The abduction has caused concern among the victim’s family, colleagues, and residents of Itesiwaju Local Government Area, who have appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts towards securing his safe and unconditional release.

They also urged members of the public with useful information that could aid the rescue operation to come forward.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the victim was kidnapped at his farm in Budo Aare, adding that efforts were ongoing to rescue him and apprehend those responsible.
