In the run-up to the International Day of the Girl, social-impact leader and UNICEF Nigeria Young Influencer Lois Oladeji launched a video project in Saki, Oyo State titled “What Happens When Girls Get the Mic”. The initiative features four teenage girls who share their aspirations, leadership ambitions, and visions for change.
Part of her broader campaign, “The Girl I Am; The Change I Lead”, the project seeks to amplify young girls’ voices and redefine leadership as inclusive and age-agnostic. In one segment, a participant declared, “I have not seen a female president in Nigeria before, and I would love to be.” Another said: “I want to empower more girls to take up leadership roles.”
According to Oladeji, the film is designed to remind communities that leadership is not restricted by age or gender but is defined by courage and vision. She emphasised that when young people are given access to platforms and opportunities, change becomes possible.
