Makinde a “Servant Leader”, Says Former CCII President-General Akinwande

Chief Wole Akinwande, former President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), has described Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State as a true servant-leader whose inclusive style and accessibility distinguish his governance.

In his assessment, Akinwande emphasised that Makinde’s leadership transcends mere symbolism:

“His leadership style is inclusive, transformational and what you can call servant-leadership. He is ready to talk with you any time … He is very, very good. He is not autocratic and he is accessible to everybody.”

Highlighting tangible examples, Akinwande recalled how Makinde responded swiftly to the concerns of residents near Alakia during the airport road construction by immediately approving a small access road to ease their movement. He said this kind of responsiveness exemplifies Makinde’s approach.

Among the governor’s achievements, Akinwande cited improvements in education—such as the elevation of technical universities and resolution of longstanding HEIs’ crises—massive road infrastructure works that have transformed the look of Ibadan and surrounding areas, and a notable rise in economic activities and worker morale across the state. He noted that non-indigenes and indigenes alike now see development spread across all senatorial zones.

Assessing Governor Makinde’s performance on a scale of one to ten, Akinwande offered an impressive “eight out of ten,” explaining that while perfection is elusive, the governor’s impact is “dependable,” commendable and deserving of praise
