Governor Seyi Makinde has inaugurated an 11-member planning committee to steer the upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations of Oyo State, emphasizing that the milestone should reflect collective achievements and recognize past contributors.
The inauguration took place at the Executive Council Chamber, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, where Governor Makinde expressed that the state has matured sufficiently for a grand commemoration of its half-century milestone.
The committee is chaired by former House of Representatives member Hon. Saheed Akinade Fijabi, with former Oyo State Head of Service, Alhaja Ololade Agboola, as Deputy Chair, and Mrs. Ronke Adedayo as Secretary. Other members include community leaders, past public servants, and notable figures in Oyo State’s development.
Governor Makinde asked the committee to reach out to past leaders—both living and deceased—to honor them and bring their stories to the celebration. He said this anniversary is for all segments of the state, cutting across party lines:
“Parties will come and go, but our state will remain. We go for the best in Oyo State, whether they are in whichever political party.”
He further noted that while the executive is leading the affair, the celebration should involve all three arms of government: executive, legislative, and judiciary. The governor charged the committee to document the state’s accomplishments, engage citizens meaningfully, and ensure the jubilee reflects Oyo’s journey.
Attendees included the First Lady of a former governor, past deputies, members of the State Assembly, the Chief Judge, SSG, and local government representatives, among others.
