Makinde receives report from the relief fund committee on the Bodija explosion.

Governor Makinde, represented by Deputy Governor Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, who also serves as the chairman of the relief fund committee, expressed that the recent explosion was both a tragic and avoidable incident. He emphasized the gravity of the situation and the necessary response from the state government.

In addressing the aftermath of the explosion, the Deputy Governor outlined several measures implemented by the government, including emergency services and ongoing support for victims. He stressed the importance of investigating the root causes of the incident and urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious.

"The explosion at Deji Oyelese Close, Bodija prompted immediate action from the Oyo State Government to mitigate the damage caused," he stated. "It’s critical to understand the factors that contributed to this unusual occurrence in such a high-profile area. We continue to learn from such events, reminding us not to underestimate the importance of security within our communities."

He assured the public that the findings of the committee would be carefully reviewed and acted upon. “My Principal has endorsed that I must receive this report, and the government will take prompt action on its recommendations,” he affirmed. “We understand that there is no time to waste. Our commitment is to assist the victims of this tragedy swiftly and effectively, ensuring they feel supported without delay.”

The Deputy Governor also expressed gratitude to the committee members for their dedication and hard work, stating, “The Oyo State Government truly appreciates the effort you have put into this important task.”

Earlier, CP Fatai Owoseni (rtd), standing in for the committee chairman to present the committee’s report, noted that it consists of four volumes. He stated, “I am here to present the report on the disbursement and management of the Bodija Explosion Relief Fund, following its inauguration on December 24, 2024. The committee's recommendations are based on insights gathered from a trilateral meeting involving the Dejo Oyelese Vigilance Group (DOVG), the Bodija Estate Residents Association (BERA), and other experts.”

The committee is presenting a comprehensive report to Your Excellency, consisting of four volumes:

- **Volume 1**: Main report with eight chapters outlining deliberations and recommendations.

- **Volume 2**: Details the trilateral meeting on government financial support for affected individuals.

- **Volume 3**: Breaks down allocated funds for each individual affected.

- **Volume 4**: Provides a pictorial representation of damages from the explosion.

Pastor Muyiwa Bamgbose highlighted the committee's proposal for support across various victim categories, emphasizing the distinction between support and compensation. He stressed the need for prompt implementation of the recommendations, noting the government's swift action and the Deputy Governor's commitment. The proposed support aims to assist victims without room for complaints, and he expressed gratitude for ongoing infrastructure improvements by the government.
