Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a lawsuit stemming from comments made after a recent clash between her and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. The legal action cites a Facebook statement allegedly made by an aide to the Senate President, which accused Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of harboring “bottled up anger” over her removal as chair of the local content committee and suggested she lacked understanding of legislative procedures.
The statement reportedly included derogatory remarks, implying that the senator believed her role as a lawmaker was merely about her appearance, stating that "she thinks being a lawmaker is all about pancaking her face and wearing transparent outfits to the Chamber's."
In response to these comments, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has characterized them as defamatory and intended to damage her reputation and create public disdain towards her. She is requesting the court to mandate the defendants to retract the defamatory statements and issue a written apology published in widely circulated national newspapers. Additionally, she is asking for an order of perpetual injunction to prevent the defendants and their associates from making further defamatory comments.
