New Solid Minerals Data Template to Boost Mining Revenue — Governor Makinde

New Solid Minerals Data Template to Boost Mining Revenue — Governor Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has welcomed the introduction of a new data-template for the solid minerals sector, saying it will significantly enhance revenue remittances and ensure better tracking of mining operations across the state.

The template standardises how mineral output, licences, fees and operators’ data are captured and shared across government layers. Governor Makinde said the change will close loopholes that have allowed mining revenues to go unrecorded, and will help Oyo State tap into its untapped mineral wealth in a more transparent and effective way.

Officials in the state’s Ministry of Mines noted that past weaknesses in data collection and regulation had undermined the state’s internal revenue efforts. With the new framework, they aim to ensure every licence issued, every tonne extracted, and every payment collected is accounted for — boosting the state’s capacity to invest in infrastructure, jobs and community development.

Governor Makinde invited mining companies operating in Oyo to collaborate fully with the new system, stressing that the era of informal operations and un-remitted revenue is ending. He added that mining must serve the citizens — not just generate profits for a few — and that robust data is the foundation of good governance and fair revenue sharing.
