Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Mr. Salihu Adelabu, stated this during a television programme in Ibadan on Friday. According to him, the breakthrough was achieved after Governor Seyi Makinde raised the monthly gratuity allocation from ₦100 million to ₦1 billion.
Adelabu explained that the upward review helped the government to settle outstanding benefits faster, enabling retirees to access their entitlements without prolonged delays.
Highlighting the impact of the ₦80,000 minimum wage, the commissioner noted that pension adjustments and recomputations carried out since July last year had further improved the welfare of retirees. He revealed that 1,906 pensioners had received their full gratuities in 2025 alone, with about 1,500 of them settled between May and August.
“So far, more than 8,545 retirees have benefitted within six years, and the governor is determined to clear all pending backlogs before the end of this tenure,” Adelabu assured.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, confirmed that the state spends over ₦1 billion monthly on gratuity payments. He added that Oyo pensioners currently enjoy one of the best welfare packages in Nigeria, receiving timely payments and wage increments in line with serving civil servants.
