Oyo APC Abruptly Postpones Mega Rally Indefinitely

The political atmosphere in Oyo State took a surprising turn on Friday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced the indefinite postponement of its highly anticipated "Mega Open-Air Stakeholders Meeting." The event, which was slated to hold on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in Ibadan, was billed as a major show of force to signal the party’s readiness to reclaim power in 2027.

In a statement issued in Ibadan, the Oyo APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, explained that the decision to put the meeting on hold was due to the "need for wider consultations and better planning." According to Sadare, the party leadership, in partnership with the 'Oyo State Renewed Hope Ambassadors,' wants to raise the bar by involving a broader spectrum of stakeholders from within and outside the state. "This time, we want to raise the bar by involving more stakeholders in the APC... since we are all united by a common cause," Sadare stated.

However, political observers are already speculating that the sudden postponement may be linked to internal logistics or the heated political climate in the state. The cancellation comes just hours after the APC engaged in a fierce war of words with Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration over the alleged N2.9 billion funding for the "Oyo @ 50" celebrations.

The APC had intended to use the mega meeting to formally welcome "bigwigs" and defectors from other parties into its fold. Sadare assured party faithfuls that a new date would be announced "as soon as possible" and that the goal remains to ensure President Bola Tinubu’s second term and the party's victory in the Oyo 2027 governorship election. For now, the opposition party has returned to the drawing board, leaving supporters and opponents alike guessing their next move.
