Oyo First Lady Distributes Stationery to Schools to Mark State's 50th Anniversary

The Wife of the Governor of Oyo State, Mrs. Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde, has reaffirmed the state government's unwavering commitment to education, describing it as the greatest legacy that can be bequeathed to future generations. She made this declaration on Monday while distributing stationery items to pupils of public schools across the state. The presentation, held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, was a key activity marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Oyo State.

Addressing a gathering of students, teachers, and stakeholders, Mrs. Makinde emphasized that the initiative was deliberately designed to place children at the center of the Oyo@50 celebrations. She noted that the future prosperity of the state depends largely on the quality of education provided to its young population. "Our children are the future of Oyo State. The state belongs to you, and if you work hard, you will inherit it and take it forward," the First Lady stated, challenging the students to take ownership of their academic journey.

She expressed her appreciation to the teachers and the Oyo@50 Anniversary Planning Committee for facilitating the program. Highlighting the transformative power of learning, she stressed that education remains the most effective tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering citizens to contribute meaningfully to society. "When you are educated, you can lift yourself out of poverty, defend your family with a strong voice, and make informed decisions for yourself and for the future of Oyo State," Mrs. Makinde added, urging the pupils to cultivate strong reading habits and remain focused.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, also spoke at the event, commending the teachers for their dedication. He described the stationery distribution as a deliberate investment in the state's future and a testament to the government's intentional support for public education. "When we provide basic learning materials for our children, we are strengthening the foundation of our education system and ensuring that no child is left behind," Olayiwola remarked.

Earlier in the program, the Chairman of the Oyo@50 Anniversary Planning Committee, Hon. Saheed Akinade Fijabi, thanked stakeholders for their support towards the success of the Golden Jubilee celebrations. He explained that the inclusion of student-focused programs was strategic, noting that "Oyo@50 is not only about celebrating our past; it is about securing our future." The event was further enlivened by quiz competitions and dance performances by the students, adding color and excitement to the milestone celebration.
