Oyo Govt Gives Two-Week Ultimatum to Roadside Traders Along Airport Road

The Oyo State Government has ordered traders operating along Airport Road, Old Ife Road, and Onipepeye areas in Ibadan to vacate the roadside and containers within two weeks. The deadline is Monday, October 27, 2025.

Officials say the order is necessary, citing public safety and environmental concerns. Roadside traders obstruct walkways, drainages, and road verges, contributing to flooding risk, damage to infrastructure, and risk to lives. The government also highlighted the dangers involved in trading by the roadside, including exposure to traffic accidents and environmental hazards.

The administration noted that enough modern markets and official trading spaces already exist in various locations across Ibadan, and therefore roadside trading is no longer justifiable. It asserted that the visual clutter of containers and roadside stalls undermines Ibadan’s tourism potential and the aesthetics of the city.

Traders affected are urged to relocate to proper market places. The state government warned that failure to comply will attract enforcement measures including confiscation of wares and possible prosecution. The objective is to protect both citizens and public infrastructure while promoting order and sustainable urban development.
