Oyo Guber Aspirant, Bakare, Backs Direct Payment of LGAs Allocation

Oyo Guber Aspirant, Bakare, Backs Direct Payment of LGAs Allocation

Dr. Ololade Usman Bakare, a prominent gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has publicly declared his support for the direct payment of monthly allocations to Local Government Areas (LGAs), a policy championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Bakare made his stance known while featuring on the popular socio-political radio program "Bosenlo" on Lagelu FM, Ibadan. He argued that financial autonomy for local governments is crucial for catalyzing development at the grassroots level, which is often the most neglected tier of governance.

During the interview, the cyber security expert and politician asserted that he possesses all the constitutional requirements to lead Oyo State as Governor in 2027. Citing the 1999 Constitution as amended, Bakare emphasized that his qualifications, age, and experience in policy formulation make him a suitable candidate for the continued advancement of the state. He revealed that he has been actively involved in governance at the federal level, particularly in crafting policies aimed at expanding the national tax net, an experience he intends to leverage to boost Oyo State's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Reflecting on the state's 50th anniversary, Dr. Bakare commended the efforts of past governors who laid the foundation for modern Oyo State. He called for the sustenance of their legacies, particularly in the sectors of quality education, healthcare delivery, and the security of lives and property. He noted that these pillars were the vision of the state's founding fathers and must remain the priority of any serious administration. Bakare pledged that if entrusted with the mandate, his administration would prioritize auditing critical government sectors to address housing deficits and revive moribund industries to create a more productive local economy.

The aspirant also used the platform to foster unity within his party, reiterating that all gubernatorial aspirants under the APC banner are capable leaders who can take the state to greater heights. He expressed confidence in securing the party's ticket but urged members to remain focused on supporting the "Renewed Hope" agenda of the federal government. Bakare’s endorsement of direct LGA allocations aligns him with a growing movement of politicians advocating for a more decentralized approach to governance, ensuring that resources reach the communities that need them most.
