Oyo and Osun State governments have intensified calls for the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to resolve the decades-old Ogburo land boundary feud between the two states. During a joint mediation session held over the weekend in Ibadan, officials from both states reiterated their appeal for a swift resolution to the dispute, which has persisted despite prior submissions to the NBC.
The meeting, co-chaired by Oyo State Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal and Osun State Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, emphasized maintaining peace in the border community. Lawal noted that memoranda outlining the states’ positions had been submitted to the NBC years ago without a verdict, urging residents to avoid inflammatory rhetoric. Adewusi echoed this sentiment, expressing optimism that the NBC would address ambiguities in the dispute to preserve the states’ fraternal ties.
The event drew key stakeholders, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland (represented by Chief Amidu Ajibade), Osun State Security Adviser Samuel Ojo, and leaders from Ibadan and Iwo. Security officials were tasked with arresting anyone inciting discord, while participants toured Ogburo to assess boundary markers.
Oyo State’s delegation included Information Commissioner Dotun Oyelade, Lagelu Constituency lawmaker Olajide Akintunde, and Lagelu Local Government Chairman Kamorudeen Mudashiru. The meeting concluded with calls for unity and adherence to fairness in resolving the historic conflict.
