Oyo pays N60m monthly to clear pension arrears

The Oyo State Government has announced it is allocating N60 million monthly to clear outstanding pension arrears for retirees. This development was revealed by Tunji Adekunle, Chairman of the State Pension Board, who noted that as of April 2025, the board oversees pensions for 22,212 retirees.

Adekunle emphasized Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to prioritizing pensioners’ welfare, stating that pensions are now consistently disbursed by the 25th of each month. He added that the administration has maintained timely salary payments for active workers while expanding the pension roster monthly. Since January 2025 alone, the board has enrolled 142 pensioners in January, 175 in February, 171 in March, and 143 in April.

Hammeed Bello, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Pension, praised the governor’s dedication to retirees. He highlighted that prompt pension payments have alleviated financial strain for pensioners and strengthened trust in the government. The board also reaffirmed its focus on transparency, accountability, and improving pension administration statewide.

This initiative reflects Oyo State’s ongoing efforts to address historical pension delays and ensure financial stability for veteran civil servants.
