Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, has declared his willingness to withdraw from contesting the governorship ticket in 2027 if party stakeholders agree that the nomination comes from the Oke-Ogun zone. He made this offer during a general party meeting in Itesiwaju Local Government Area.
Ogungbenro, who was recently re-elected to head the state chapter, urged party members to unify behind Governor Seyi Makinde and focus on delivering the party’s agenda rather than internal rivalries. He specifically praised the governor’s approval of a key road project worth over ₦30 billion in Itesiwaju LGA as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the grassroots.
At the meeting, leaders from Itesiwaju and other LGAs reiterated their loyalty to the PDP, emphasising unity from ward levels up. The locality’s Executive Chairman applauded the party’s cohesion, reiterating that the grassroots are firmly behind the governor’s leadership.
The move by Ogungbenro is seen as a strategic gesture towards zoning and intra-party harmony ahead of the 2027 election cycle, signalling that party leadership is willing to prioritise unity and equitable representation.
