Oyo PDP Unperturbed by Makinde Ally’s Exit, Party Insists

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has downplayed the impact of recent high-profile exit(s) from its ranks, affirming that the party’s core strength and organisational structure remain unaffected. According to state party leadership, the departure of a key ally close to Governor Seyi Makinde reflects individual choice, not a broader collapse of party unity.

In a statement issued by senior party officials, the PDP leadership dismissed claims that internal defections threatened their operational capacity or electoral prospects. The officials emphasised that political parties will always experience changes in membership, but what matters most is the institution’s capacity, membership base and internal democracy.

The statement further reiterated that the party in Oyo has built robust grassroots networks, retained key local government and ward structures, and is continuing to mobilise ahead of the 2027 election cycle. Party officials referenced the revival of enrolment drives, renewed engagement of ward executives, and enhanced coordination with the state executive as proof of sustained vitality.

Addressing possible anxiety among party members and supporters, the leadership directed all stakeholders to focus not on individual movements but on collective objectives: rebuilding public confidence, deepening internal reforms, and preparing for future electoral battles. They warned against over-reaction to defections, arguing that over-concentration on exits leads to neglect of strategy, organisation and voter engagement.

Local political analysts say the message is strategic — the PDP wants to reassure its faithful, signal internal cohesion, and project stability at a time when opposition parties are pressing for gains. The leadership insisted: the strength of the PDP lies in its membership, not in any single personality.
