In a significant crackdown on human trafficking, the Oyo State Police Command has successfully dismantled a trafficking ring in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The police rescued 83 individuals, including a child, from a residential building in the city's Orogun area. The victims were allegedly held against their will for an unspecified period.
According to preliminary investigations reported by Channels Television, the victims are believed to be nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They were brought into Nigeria under the false pretense of employment opportunities. The perpetrators are said to have extorted large sums of money, reportedly in US dollars, from the victims' families and relatives as part of their scheme.
The rescued individuals are currently being held at the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, while further investigations are underway to establish the full extent of the operation and bring all those responsible to justice.
