The Oyo State Government has formally approved an expansive end-of-year celebration programme branded “Vibing December,” also known as “Faaji December,” which will run through December 2025 into early 2026. The announcement follows the submission of a memorandum to the State Executive Council by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism.
According to the government’s outline, the festival will not be restricted solely to the state capital but will take place concurrently in multiple municipalities and communities across the state, providing inclusive access for citizens in both urban and rural areas. The objective is to usher in the new year in style while energising local economies.
Key activities slated to feature during the festival include: a “Legendary December” show with designated beer-villages at select centres; a “Fantasyland Variety Programme”; the Ogbomoso Cradle Carnival; the Oyo Durbar; Amaaland Festival; Atewolara Festival; hotel-based “Hotel Vibes”; the traditional Ojude UI celebration; artistes’ hangouts and concerts, among others.
The government emphasised that the event is not only about leisure but also aimed at creating business opportunities. Local entrepreneurs, event organisers, hospitality operators, artisans and cultural practitioners are expected to engage throughout the festive period, thereby boosting tourism, creating jobs and stimulating commerce.
Security and safety measures will be enforced before, during and after the festival. Government officials noted that arrangements have been made to protect lives and properties, and that community leaders and security agencies will cooperate to ensure that celebratory activities remain peaceful and orderly.
The Governor of Oyo State is expected to officially flag off the festival in the first week of December, signalling the formal commencement of the month-long series of events. The flag-off will likely be a high-profile occasion involving government dignitaries, organisers and media coverage.
Critics and observers note that while the festival promises vibrancy and economic benefit, its success will depend on inclusive participation, transparency in funding and logistics, and fair distribution of event benefits across the state. Some caution that over-commercialisation or poor coordination may undermine the intended cultural value.
As the date approaches, citizens, community groups and private-sector sponsors are preparing to take part. The festival’s organisers encourage early planning by residents and businesses to secure venues, comply with regulations and exploit opportunities. With the state government’s backing, “Vibing December” may become a major annual feature in Oyo’s calendar of events.
