In a statement, the Authority described the report circulating mainly on Facebook as an attempt to tarnish its image, stressing that no such incident occurred.
According to OYRTMA, its officials have been stationed at the UI axis for the past three months to enforce compliance with traffic lights, a measure fully supported by the Oyo State Government to restore order and safety on the roads.
“The allegation that our personnel killed a tricycle rider is false and mischievous,” the agency said, while posing critical questions to those behind the rumour:
Who conveyed the supposed victim to the hospital?
Which hospital confirmed his death, and which doctor issued a certificate?
Where was the alleged corpse deposited?
Who removed the tricycle from the scene?
Did police officers who later arrived find a body or an abandoned vehicle?
Did OYRTMA officials desert their post, or did they remain on duty?
The Authority insisted that the incident was staged by the tricycle operator in a bid to evade punishment for his traffic offence.
Reassuring the public of its dedication, OYRTMA maintained that it would continue to perform its lawful duties without being distracted by “baseless allegations.” It further urged citizens to verify information and avoid being misled by unsubstantiated claims.
