The opposition party also criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration for what it described as mismanagement of the state’s resources.
A member of the House of Assembly representing Saki West, Hon. Ibraheem Shittu, faulted the approval of the loan, insisting it was granted without the constitutionally required two-thirds majority. He also claimed he was not informed of the sitting, alleging that the approval was done secretly.
However, the House of Assembly, in a statement signed by the Majority Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, and the Chairman, Committee on Information, Hon. Waheed Akintayo, dismissed Shittu’s claims, describing him as an absentee lawmaker.
The protest, which commenced at the APC State Secretariat in Oke-Ado, passed through Dugbe, Queen Cinema, and Adamasingba, before ending at Mokola Roundabout.

Addressing the crowd, the State APC Chairman, Hon. Olayide Abas, warned the PDP government against mortgaging the future of Oyo people with an increasing debt profile.
He said, “The approval of a ₦300 billion loan is an attempt to further plunge Oyo State into financial crisis. This is despite the fact that the state has been receiving increased allocations from the Federation Account since the advent of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.”
