In a statement on Thursday, the Command explained that one of such routine checks led to disturbing discoveries along the Toll Gate axis of the Ibadan expressway around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to the statement, operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG. A lone occupant, identified as Alfa Basiru, was arrested after being found with a substance suspected to be human flesh. The suspect allegedly confessed that he bought the material in Lagos.
The police confirmed that Basiru has been handed over to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, where further interrogation is ongoing. The item recovered is undergoing forensic tests to verify its authenticity and trace its origin.
In a separate incident the same day, officers flagged down a Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX. However, the driver abandoned the car and fled the scene before questioning. The vehicle has since been impounded, with the police urging anyone with genuine ownership claims to come forward with verifiable documents by contacting the Command on +234 808 176 8614.
The Oyo Police Command stressed that the stop-and-search exercise is a deliberate security strategy, not a show of force, aimed at deterring criminals and protecting residents and travelers across the state.
While commending the public for its cooperation, the Command assured that it will sustain proactive measures to strengthen law and order and ensure a safer environment for all.
