President Tinubu has approved the employment of 774 health fellows.

On Thursday, President Tinubu launched a significant initiative focused on empowering youth and promoting national development at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The event included participation from Nigeria’s development partners, senior government officials, and prominent traditional leaders, such as the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III.

The selection of fellows—one from each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas—was based on merit, reflecting a commitment to integrity and excellence. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, noted that the rigorous selection process attracted over 360,000 applicants, indicating the initiative's broad appeal and the potential of Nigeria's youth.

During the event, President Tinubu described the program as a “transformative initiative” and highlighted the vital role of young Nigerians in shaping the country's future. He stated, “This programme reflects my administration’s commitment to tapping into the immense potential of our greatest asset – our young people.” With over 60% of Nigerians under 30, he emphasized the dynamic and resourceful nature of the youth population and the program’s potential to drive innovation, economic growth, and social progress.

The President urged the newly appointed fellows to fully embrace their roles, reinforcing their position as future leaders of Nigeria’s healthcare system. He expressed that their selection is not just about job placement but also a commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for all Nigerians, regardless of social status, gender, or background. “You are this nation’s invaluable asset, and we are dedicated to cultivating a future where Nigeria stands proud,” he asserted.

President Tinubu elaborated on the long-term vision of the program, which aims to develop a new generation of health leaders to foster sustained change and innovation within the healthcare system. He stated, "A robust healthcare system is fundamental for national advancement. A nation thrives when its people are healthy. You are the cornerstone of this vision, and I take pride in being here with you today."

Professor Pate added his support for the initiative, calling it a crucial step toward transforming Nigeria’s healthcare landscape. “The movement to enhance the health of Nigerians has commenced, and we are already witnessing promising results,” he remarked.

The event also featured inspiring remarks from other attendees, including Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Youth Minister, Ayodele Olawande; and the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, who all motivated the fellows in their new roles.
