Reps Member 'DoN' Distributes Rice to Cushion Economic Hardship in Ibadan North

In a timely intervention aimed at mitigating the current economic challenges facing families, the Federal Lawmaker representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as "DoN," has facilitated the distribution of over 320 bags of rice to his constituents. The distribution exercise, which was flagged off on Monday at the Ibadan North Local Government Secretariat, is part of a broader strategy to promote food security and provide immediate relief to vulnerable households within the constituency. The lawmaker described the initiative as a fulfillment of his campaign promise to prioritize the welfare of the people, particularly during difficult economic times.

The palliative program was executed in strategic collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, channeled through the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadinkowa, Gombe State. This partnership underscores the lawmaker’s ability to leverage federal resources for the benefit of his local community. By securing such a significant quantity of food items, Hon. Oyekunle has demonstrated the value of effective legislative representation, ensuring that the dividends of democracy trickle down to the grassroots level where they are most needed.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Seun Olufade, lauded the lawmaker for his exemplary leadership. He noted that the distribution comes at a critical time when many residents are grappling with the high cost of living. "This is the kind of representation we want and cherish for our people," Olufade remarked. He emphasized that the era of electioneering is over, and the current focus must be on delivering tangible benefits to the electorate, describing Oyekunle’s gesture as a model worthy of emulation by other elected officials.

The event also drew commendations from party elders, with Chief Ismaila Ashipa, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), highlighting the importance of having a representative who is in tune with the needs of the masses. Representing the Federal institution that facilitated the grains, Dr. Shafiu Adamu of the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadinkowa, reiterated the Federal Government's commitment to food security. Dr. Adamu assured the gathering that the government would continue to support initiatives that directly address the nutritional needs of the population.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle clarified that the distribution was conducted strictly on a non-partisan basis. He revealed that the list of beneficiaries included members of various political parties, religious groups, pensioners, and community associations. One of the beneficiaries, a pensioner named Mr. Oksupo Rickets, expressed profound gratitude to the lawmaker for keeping faith with the electorate.
