Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo has rejected reports that he is in police detention over an alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl, describing the claims as “baseless, unfounded and mischievous.”
In a statement shared with journalists on Friday in Abuja, Abbo said he was at his residence in Katampe Extension all day and never held in any police station.
He denied that there was any truth to reports that he assaulted a minor in June of this year, insisting it is a smear campaign by political detractors.
Abbo admitted, however, that he had earlier been involved in a police inquiry regarding a female money lender who allegedly demanded N5 million from him under duress. He said both parties were invited to the FCID for questioning — a matter separate from the rape allegation.
He expressed confidence that the investigation will clear him, and called on the media and public to await due process rather than spreading speculative reports.
