A violent altercation in Ibadan, Oyo State, involving six men wielding cutlasses, broken bottles, and stones has led to their detention following their inability to secure bail.
The suspects—identified as Ismail Oladipupo, Ridwan Raji, Biodun Gbadamosi, Usman Mohammed, Samuel Olowu, and Sunday Akande—were arraigned at the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo on charges of disrupting public peace. Their alleged actions on April 14 at Agbaje Market reportedly terrorized the community.
Court President Mrs. S.M. Akintayo granted bail at ₦200,000 per defendant, requiring two reliable sureties, including a community leader. However, the men failed to meet these terms, prompting their remand to Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo Town. The case was adjourned until June 24.
Prosecutor Insp. Ayodele Ayeni stated the men’s actions violated Sections 516, 416, and 249 of Oyo State’s Criminal Code. All six pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and conduct likely to provoke public unrest.
