Mr. Sodipo Olumuyiwa Olubunmi has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Ecotheology and Palynological Studies by the Global Christian-Care Biblical University and Chaplaincy College (GCBUCC). The degree was conferred during the institution’s graduation and ordination ceremony held at the NLNG Hall, Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan.
Sodipo, whose academic journey began with a BSc in Botany from the University of Lagos and an MSc in Botany (specialising in Palynology) from the University of Ibadan, described his latest achievement as a “new vista and fresh perspective.” He explained that Ecotheology bridges faith and science, emphasising stewardship of creation on both spiritual and ecological fronts.
In his acceptance remarks, he said:
“The ecotheologist stands at the intersection of faith and environment… God is not only the redeemer of humankind but also the creator of all living things — each possessing intrinsic value and interconnectedness.”
He thanked all those who supported his academic journey and remarked that his guiding question is inspired by the philosopher Thomas Kuhn: “The answers you get depend upon the questions you ask. I trust God to guide me to ask the right questions and obtain the right answers for the benefit of our people and the uplifting of our fatherland.”
Profoundly, the event also served as a celebration of theological and scientific scholarship, with the Rector of GCBUCC emphasising that the institution’s mission is to cultivate biblically grounded, spiritually disciplined and globally competent leaders.
