South Africa Police Arrest Woman in Brutal Murder of Nigerian Driver

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the arrest of a woman linked to the gruesome murder of a Nigerian e-hailing driver in Pretoria. The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending her court appearance, was apprehended following a swift investigation into the disappearance and subsequent death of the driver on Wednesday.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, the victim was allegedly hailed by two passengers—a male and a female—in Pretoria West. The driver was subsequently hijacked, and his body was later discovered dumped in Atteridgeville on the same day. The hijacked vehicle was also recovered in the vicinity.

"Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was murdered by a male and a female who requested the service of an e-hailing driver in Pretoria West," Colonel Masondo stated. While the female suspect is currently in custody and facing charges of murder and hijacking, a manhunt is currently underway for her male accomplice who remains at large.

The incident has sparked fresh outrage within the Nigerian community in South Africa, raising concerns over the safety of foreign nationals working in the gig economy. The suspect is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate's Court on Monday, while detectives continue their search for the second suspect.
