The newly established South West Development Commission (SWDC) has launched a sweeping regional agenda aimed at transforming Nigeria’s South-West into a major economic powerhouse. At its inaugural board meeting held in Ibadan, the commission outlined key priorities including infrastructure, industrialisation, human-capital development and regional integration.
Led by Chairman Olubunmi Adetunmbi and Managing Director/CEO Charles Akinola, the SWDC introduced the “One Bloc Development Agenda” — a framework designed to coordinate efforts across the six states of the South-West, pooling resources and aligning projects to achieve shared growth and competitiveness.
The agenda emphasises large-scale investment, innovation, education and enterprise. The Commission stressed that success will depend not just on its Board but on the collective cooperation of state governments, private-sector leaders, traditional institutions and civil society across the region.
