Two Killed, Several Injured in Oyo Crash at Idi-Ayunre Axis

A tragic road crash at the Idi-Ayunre stretch of Ijebu-Ode Road in Oyo State claimed two lives and left several others injured, authorities report.

The accident occurred on Monday when a truck belonging to a local quarry lost control and ran over three people. One died instantly; another later succumbed at a nearby hospital. One victim had a limb amputated during treatment in a bid to save her life.

In response to public outrage, youths blocked the road, demanding justice and better safety oversight of heavy vehicles.  Akeem Olatunji, Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, called the crash “painful and avoidable,” and insisted that the truck driver would be prosecuted. He also said the quarry company would be required to compensate victims’ families.

Olatunji noted past efforts to curb reckless driving, such as constructing speed breakers, but pledged additional ones along the Idi-Ayunre–Sabo route.  He lamented that many companies in the area neglect corporate social responsibility, particularly in preventing road accidents.

Witnesses said the truck showed no mechanical fault before losing control. Some believe driver error or overspeeding may be to blame.
