The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the incident in a notice posted on its X handle, stating that the disruption occurred at 11:23 a.m. on September 10, 2025.
“Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 a.m. today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas,” the company announced.
AEDC assured customers that efforts were underway to restore supply, adding: “Rest assured, we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure power is restored once the grid is stabilised.”
This latest collapse adds to the long-running power sector challenges. In 2024 alone, the grid collapsed 12 times, and over the past decade, it recorded more than 100 incidents. Earlier in February, a similar breakdown left many Nigerians in blackout.
In response to the persistent failures, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in April approved licences for six firms and a private university to generate and distribute electricity independently.
However, in its July report, NERC claimed the grid recorded no disturbances in the first quarter of 2025, stating: “There was no incidence of system disturbance on the national grid in 2025/Q1.”
