Veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, widely known as “Ogogo,” has died at the age of 66 following a battle with cancer.
His death was confirmed on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an emotional Instagram Live session.
The announcement came just days after the family disclosed that the actor was battling stage-four cancer and appealed to medical professionals and healthcare institutions for assistance. According to the family, their request was specifically for access to specialised treatment rather than financial support.
Earlier, Ogogo’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, had publicly raised concerns over his deteriorating health condition, urging experts to intervene.
The development also follows a recent incident where the family debunked false reports circulating on social media that the actor had died. At the time, Lima Taiwo dismissed the claims and cautioned against spreading unverified information.
However, Kira confirmed on Sunday that the veteran actor had indeed passed on.
Taiwo Hassan was a revered figure in the Nigerian film industry, particularly within the Yoruba movie sector, where he built a legacy spanning several decades. Known for his versatility, he delivered memorable performances in both Yoruba and English-language productions.
Beyond acting, Ogogo made significant contributions as a producer, director, and screenwriter, cementing his place as one of the prominent figures in Nollywood.
His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues, and well-wishers, many of whom had hoped for his recovery following news of his illness.
The family is expected to announce details of his funeral arrangements in due course.
