Wike Monitoring Oyo PDP Crisis "Closely" to Ensure Party Unity

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly declared that he is paying close attention to the unfolding political developments within the Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike made this disclosure on Monday in Abuja while addressing party stakeholders. His comments come amidst ongoing internal friction within the party, with various factions vying for control of the party's structure ahead of future electoral cycles.

Wike, a central figure in the party's national politics, stated that his interest in Oyo State is not borne out of a desire to impose authority but rather to ensure the survival and continued viability of the PDP. "I am interested in the survival and success of this party. I am also interested in all the happenings in Oyo State PDP. That is all I am interested in," the Minister said. He emphasized that the PDP, having once held power at the center, must resolve its internal contradictions to remain a formidable opposition and a credible alternative for Nigerians.

The former Rivers State Governor also used the opportunity to dismiss allegations that his camp is using intimidation tactics against perceived opponents within the party. He argued that recent court judgments have vindicated his position and that the legal battles initiated by opposing factions have largely collapsed. Wike's comments are seen by political analysts as a signal of his continued influence in the party's affairs in the South-West, particularly in Oyo State, where Governor Seyi Makinde remains a key ally in the G5 group.
