The 31-year-old defender has reached an agreement for a three-year contract with AS Monaco, which will take effect on July 1, following the expiration of his present deal with Bayern Munich.
Dier joined Bayern Munich in January 2024, initially on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, before signing a 12-month contract the following summer. However, he has found it challenging to secure regular playing time under coach Vincent Kompany this season, accumulating just 13 starts in the Bundesliga and three in the UEFA Champions League, amounting to a total of 25 appearances.
Bayern Munich's sporting director, Christoph Freund, addressed Dier's decision during a press conference, stating, “We had discussions with Eric about a new contract. He told us that he doesn’t want to extend and will leave us. He’s a great guy. We had a great time together. Hopefully, he crowns his time with us with his first title.”
Dier is on track to potentially leave Bayern Munich with his first major trophy, as the team has the opportunity to clinch the Bundesliga title with a victory against RB Leipzig in their upcoming match. His teammate, Harry Kane, who also transferred from Tottenham, will be unable to participate in this match due to a one-game suspension.
