FG Introduces Revised Curricula for Basic, Secondary, and Technical Education

The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, made the announcement on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa. The disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to the statement, the review was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), UBEC, NSSEC, NBTE, and other stakeholders.

Prof. Ahmad explained that the revised frameworks aim to strike a balance between subject offerings and practical learning, reduce content overload, and enhance quality learning outcomes.

She added that the updated curricula will ensure education remains relevant to present-day realities by creating more time for in-depth learning.

“At the primary level, pupils in Primary 1–3 will offer between 9 and 10 subjects, while those in Primary 4–6 will take 10–12 subjects. Junior Secondary students will take 12–14 subjects; Senior Secondary, 8–9; and Technical schools, 9–11,” she noted.

The Minister commended all stakeholders for their dedication and assured that the revised curricula will be implemented with strict monitoring to guarantee effective adoption and smooth transition in schools nationwide.
