Fresh FM Nigeria is marking a major milestone with the kick-off of a ten-day celebration to commemorate its tenth anniversary, and during a press briefing in Ibadan, founder Dr. Yinka Ayefele announced that a new station in Ilorin will begin transmission next week.
The festivities began at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, where Ayefele reflected on a decade of broadcasting excellence, resilience and innovation. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to listeners, journalists, broadcasting colleagues and regulatory authorities for their support. He noted the journey from streaming programmes online to obtaining a terrestrial licence, enduring seven years of regulatory scrutiny before the station began full operations.
According to Ayefele, Fresh FM has become a benchmark in the media industry across Oyo State and beyond, establishing a network of stations that include Yoruba-language and youth-focused platforms. He emphasized that the Ilorin launch is part of a strategic expansion to deepen reach, diversify audience engagement and create more opportunities for young broadcasters.
The 10-day anniversary programme is packed with activities designed to engage the community and reward loyal listeners. Events will include a road show called “Italawa” in Ibadan, Jumat and Christian thanksgiving services, a medical outreach, a novelty football match, raffle draws with prizes such as a three-bedroom flat, tricycles and motorcycles, and the grand concert featuring top national artists. The celebration will culminate with the unveiling of a commemorative book chronicling Fresh FM’s ten-year history.
Also present at the briefing were the station’s General Manager, senior staff of the network, the Assistant Director of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and representatives from state government. The NBC’s representative commended Fresh FM for setting high standards in professional broadcasting and for sustaining growth in a competitive industry. A government media adviser described Ayefele as a visionary whose tenacity and creativity have elevated the station’s profile.
As Fresh FM embarks on its second decade, Ayefele declared that the brand will continue to innovate, support talent development, maintain a culture of people-centred broadcasting and expand its presence across Nigeria.
