The State Commander, Olayinka Joe-Fadile, disclosed this in Ibadan on Friday, noting that the arrests involved traffickers, dealers, and users of narcotics and psychotropic substances. He explained that the suspects included 246 males and 34 females, aged between 13 and 50 years, adding that some were caught with cannabis sativa, tramadol, cocaine, diazepam, pentazocine injection, and “skuches,” while others were arrested for trafficking.
Joe-Fadile revealed that 38 cases were charged to court during the period under review, with several still ongoing, while the command also seized 1.2 tonnes of cannabis sativa and other illicit drugs. He further disclosed that a suspect arrested with human parts had been transferred to the police for proper investigation.
On rehabilitation, the commander said 19 clients were admitted in the past eight months, out of which four had been fully reintegrated into society, while 524 persons received counselling. He also noted that the command intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, reaching 141 locations across schools, markets, communities, churches, mosques, motor parks, and media platforms.
Reaffirming the agency’s commitment, Joe-Fadile assured that NDLEA would continue to strengthen its enforcement and public sensitization to achieve a drug-free Oyo State. He commended residents for their cooperation and urged them to sustain their support in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
In a related development, the NDLEA destroyed a 71.5-hectare cannabis farm in Taraba State, yielding 178,750 kilograms of skunk. A 30-year-old suspect, Alfa Andrew, was arrested following the operation in Mayodoga forest, Sardauna Local Government Area
